Our Farm


  The company

Since 1984 "de Terp" in Erichem has farmed in a organic way. Out of a real pioneer enterprise starting with of 2 acres of fine horticulture the company has developed into a mixed agriculture company with more than 90 acres. We have been specialised in pumpkin growing and the production of the exclusive region product: "Soelens Weidevlees".



  On the farm

On the farm in Erichem (surroundings Tiel), we find the pot stable and pumpkin storage building. We also have some pigs and chickens walking around outside.

In autumn and winter, this is the centre of our farm. Here we take care of our cattle and we prepare the pumpkins for sale. On Saturdays our store is opened for purchase of meat.

  The livestock

The livestock of our farm is made up of blonde d'Aquitaine cattle; a French race with excellent flesh quality, good muscles and no fat. The cows produce a calf every year, and the calves breastfeed approximately 6 months with the mother. These young animals are further raised until after approximately 2 years when they are taken to our organic butcher.

In winter the animals are housed in a wide pot stable where they can run and lie on the straw. In summer all animals go to outside for a meadow period of almost 7 months, on the "Soelen" property.

  The food

Fodder is produced in our own company for 100%. We grow corn, grass/clover and grain as power food for our own cattle. Sometimes we sell a part of the production to colleges if we have too much. In Dutch agriculture it is exceptional that no fodder is bought. This means that we know at all times what we feed, and that isn't pure, without pollution. Own cultivation of fodder and animals gives thus the right to decorate our product with the title "regional product". "Soelens Weidevlees" is therefore a 100% original product with a high quality.


  The closed ecosystem in a mixed organic farm

At the same time basic, but also truly exceptional, is the closed ecosystem which we have. This means that we have a balanced combination of raising cattle with agriculture, in which the minerals and raw materials are being recycled within the company.

Cattle eat the fodder, plants, grain, corn, grass and clover, and the manure returns to the lands for the growing of plants. The only materials that are added from time to time are some seeds and part of the organic fertilizers as far as we have a shortage. What goes out there is meat and pumpkins.

You can imagine that a kind of uniqueness is there, based on this rare combination of soil, plants, and cattle, each with his own specific quality. We are a company with a very specific character, and this makes us  very proud.
